The Harambee Dance Company was founded by Sandella and Frank Malloy in 1992 in Charleston, South Carolina and relocated to New York City in 1996. the 25 member company, comprised of exceptionally skilled dancers and musicians, have ignited audiences around the world.
The company is led by artistic director and choreographer, Sandella Malloy. Sandella shares her transformative message and vision with audiences through masterful and high energy choreography that weaves African-based movement, modern dance forms, live percussion, and vibrant costumes (created by Sandella) into captivating performances.
Harambee has performed at a wide range of venues, both nationally and internationally including: United Nations Global Festival; Panafest in Ghana, West Africa; Africussion in Taiwan, with the Ju Percussion Group; Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival; the Lincoln Center; the Kennedy Center; Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning; Hudson River Festival; Harlem Week; The Family Arts Festival; Toronto’s Caribana Festival and many others.
